Landing Strip (who named it that?)

Did you see today’s Apartment Therapy January Cure assignment? Create a Landing Strip and Start Using it

Woooooo!!! We were basically done before we started! Which is super fortunate because today did not go as planned (trip to Target for supplies derailed by sick husband getting sicker, poor guy).

feeling horrible and still looking cute, how does he do it?

According to Maxwell there are three main things that help you filter the outside world from your home, (a concept you should know I love from the name of the blog ;)):

1- a doormat (check)

2- coat hangers/hooks (check/will be up by the end of the month)

3- a landing strip (check!)

The landing strip should ideally include designated places for change, keys, wallets, and a place to sort the mail and other things that come in. He also suggests a mirror for last minute do-I-have-anything-in-my-teeth-checks and a recycling bin for instant discarding of junk.

Since we chose the hooks in the front hallway as our project to do this month, you’ve already seen what we use as our landing strip.

All we had to add was a mail sorter. We have this one that was on our desk that doesn’t do its job well there, so we moved it to the landing strip and maybe that will make the difference!

Still working out placement, but I like the mail sorter here

Three sections, back to front: coupons, to file, and receipts (we'll probably change it up)

I’d love to add some sort of recycling bin to throw out junk mail and magazines as soon as we get it, but there isn’t much floor room and I don’t want to add something to the wall or the bookcase so I’m not sure how we’re going to do that part. Plus it has to look pretty…

We do have a dedicated space for the recycling at the bottom of the pantry and we’re generally good about putting things there right away unless we’re inundated with packages for some reason, so I’m not too worried :)

And since the mirror isn’t surrounded by the Anthropologie hooks anymore, I kind of want to update it with a DIY.

Do you have a landing strip already? A system for incoming mail? We can’t seem to perfect that aspect, but we’re getting better!

And just for funsies…
